What is The Compass Project?
The Compass Project was established to offer something increasingly hard to find - psychological work conducted with genuine expertise, patience, and care.
There is no shortage of people offering therapy. What is rarer is the combination of rigorous doctoral training, years of clinical experience across complex presentations, and the professional formation that comes from working within regulated, accountable healthcare systems. We think that combination matters. Not because credentials are a substitute for the quality of the relationship, but because they're the foundation it stands on.
We hold a particular view about psychological difficulty and what it asks of us. The experiences that bring people to therapy such as shame, loneliness, fear of not being good enough, relationships that never quite work, a life that looks fine from the outside but feels hollow from within, are not disorders to be corrected. Pain and harm that was caused in the context of a relationship can only really be healed in the context of a relationship.
We're sceptical of approaches that promise rapid transformation, or that reframe ordinary pain as a condition with a protocol attached. That scepticism isn't just a clinical position. The evidence base for brief, manualised approaches is narrower than it's often presented. For some they can be helpful. For many they aren’t.
Meaningful psychological work takes time, attention and genuine commitment from both sides. We carry a small caseload because that's what the work requires. It isn't a model that scales easily, and we're not trying to scale it. What we offer is a limited resource, and we're selective about where we put it, not out of exclusivity, but because shallow engagement rarely helps.
Our practitioners hold doctorates in clinical psychology and have worked across the NHS, HSE, hospitals, prisons and Harley Street over careers spanning more than two decades. We carry experience with presentations that are complex, longstanding, and that haven't responded well elsewhere. We supervise trainee clinicians, hold academic appointments, and maintain active research commitments. All Compass Project practitioners are Chartered members of the Psychological Society of Ireland and hold doctoral-level qualifications.
We take confidentiality seriously, in practice and in principle. You can read more about how we handle data in our Privacy Policy.
If you've had difficulty finding the right person, or you're looking for something more than a managed care model allows, we'd be glad to hear from you.
